As a pet owner, it is very important to make sure that you are well aware of the signs that may indicate the need for a trip to the emergency vet. To help you recognize these signs, you will want to review the following points.

Is Unable To Keep Any Food Or Water Down

There is nothing alarming about a pet vomiting when it does not feel good. This might happen a couple of times within a day if it is sick. However, if you are noticing that your pet is vomiting all of  the water and food it tries to take in and this is going on for more than a day, it is important to get to the vet right away. Animals can dehydrate extremely fast so you do not want to put your pet in a position of ending up in worse shape than it already is in.

Walks Like It Is Intoxicated

It is one thing for your pet to get so excited that it is jumping around and finds itself bumping into a wall or two. It is something completely different if your pet is just trying to walk around the house like normal and ends up stumbling, bumping into walls, or falling over. If it looks like your pet is acting in a behavior that would resemble intoxication, you need to get it to the emergency vet. It could be an issue with its vision. There could also be an issue with its central nervous system and immediate medical treatment is required.

Its Stomach Is Swollen

If the stomach of your pet is suddenly swollen and hard to the touch, you need to take it to the emergency vet as soon as possible. It could be a problem with the stomach becoming twisted, which can happen when an animal eats too quickly. This is a serious medical issue that needs to be treated immediately, as it could result in death.

With these few signs in mind, you should have little trouble determining whether or not it is time to take your pet to the emergency animal hospital, like Bayshore Animal Hospital & Bird Practice. Make sure that you are well aware of the location of your closest emergency animal hospital and which route will get you there the quickest. This way, should you ever need to take your pet, you will not have to worry about wasting time trying to find your way there.
